I've been in maximum security prisons
(as a consultant). A prison
-- people with dead eyes and
Intimidating looks; doors that won't
open until the one behind it closes.
I always thought that it was the
most depressing place in the world.
Wrong!
My mother-in-law is in a nursing home
-- a very good one. At age 91, she has
an artificial knee
an artificial hip
a broken hip fixed with screws
and is a stroke victim.
-- and she is one of the best of the lot.
People staring off into space or
babbling or looking as thin as
Holocaust survivors.
"God, let me the fuck out of here."
It's more depressing than a prison
because
I know that I will never go to prison.
