John F. McMullen was an English Major in college and then went bad and became a computer person for 40 years, amassing a Masters in Computer Science and one in Public Administration. His work in the technology field led me into both teaching ( Presently, he is an Adjunct Professor at Purchase College in New York) and into writing.
McMullen has been a contributing editor for Computer Shopper (with two monthly columns), Computers & Electronics; HyperAge: and Computer Living – New York; and my writing has appeared in the Chicago Tribune; PC Magazine; InfoWorld; National Review; Lear’s; and MicroTimes. He was the co-author of one of the first books on microcomputer communications (“MicroComputer Communications – A Window on The World” – John Wiley, 1983) and a contributor (with Esther Dyson, Steve Wozniak, William F. Buckley, Henny Youngman; Ray Bradbury; Les Solomon and many others) to “Digital Deli,” an anthology well ahead of is time (Workman Press, 1984 – articles now available on-line). McMullen was also the East Coast editor of Newsbytes, an on-line news service, for three years. In this position, he was responsible for writing 25 news stories / editorial pieces and became a recognized expert in the emerging areas of computer crime and hacking, bringing together hackers and law enforcement officials in conferences and discussion forums.
