ACTION OF GOD
I. Perception
pulse
foam
oscil-
lation
better sensed
by sinew
than
seismo-
graphs
II. Encounter
how do I greet you, ocean
plant my toes in the Sea Isle sand
turn my body to slice the breakers
flex my knees and face the assault
like an offensive linemsn
defending what
or ripple my muscles
and flex my fins
and find the way
to still the tides
by flexing like a banner
in the breeze
III. action
and, rejecting rock or motion
scream boiling up from a serpent in my bowel
howls me forward
snapping arms and torso
amplifying thunder
aqueous cells rejoice
in the undertow
IV. meaning
all exists and nothing
blinded, my vision penetrates your ocean
before the sound comes forth from you
“This is the action of God.”
